Plasma Television MZ 42PZ10
Redefining
the Future of Business Communications
Features
of LG Electronics Plasma Television - MZ-42PZ10
From nowhere, LG has got into plasma in a big way. Instead of buying
another manufacturer's screen, it's taken the long route, building its own plasma
glass. And the 42inch MZ-42PZ10 is just the beachhead of a full-on assault on
plasma, with a 40inch full screen, a 60inch and a 36inch widescreen plasma model
all expected to arrive before the middle of 2002.
LG has also made plasma
sexy. With its brushed-chrome bezel and a remote that takes its styling cues from
Bang & Olufsen, this looks and feels almost irresistible.
The model
tested is the first example of the MZ-42PZ10 to reach the UK and as such it was
full of sockets not applicable to British readers. When the MZ-42PZ10 hits the
shops, it will have composite, S-Video and component video inputs, alongside the
15-pin DSUB connector for PC monitoring.
LG's plasma has no fans in the
set, meaning the screen gets slightly hotter than most models. Doing without the
fans gives LG a distinct advantage in the home, as it is effectively silent whether
switched on or off.

The LG plasma Television display panel (PDP) can be thought of as a descendant of the
neon lamp. The term plasma refers to a gas that consists of electrons, positively
charged particles known as anions, and neutral particles. The PDP has sometimes
been referred to as a gas-discharge display because it operates by passing electricity
through neon gas, causing it to become "charged" temporarily: light
is produced when the gas spontaneously discharges. LG Plasma Television display panels
can also be viewed as a series of fluorescent lamps. The displays operate at
high voltages, low currents, and low temperatures, resulting in long operating
lifetime. Inside the plasma panel, a series of red, green, and blue cells are
grouped in a precise matrix. These cells are activated individually, unlike
standard CRTs or LCDs. This means that they emit light individually, creating
a precise pixel on the viewing area.
The main advantage of the LG PLASMA Television PDP over nearly all other display devices
is that it can be made into a display panel, with diagonal sizes of 20 to 80
inches that are no thicker than 4 inches. Moreover, these large display panels
can provide high information content and full-color images. This makes the LG
Plasma PDP the ideal technology for the fabled wall- mounted flat panel Television,
which can be used in the home as well as in numerous commercial and industrial
environments as a replacement for large, bulky CRT monitors and rear projectors.
